Game time

Turning2Sports supports kid athletes and their families. Our mission is to get affordable equipment to young athletes, so every kid can play. Because there’s nothing like taking the field, running onto the pitch, readying for a puck drop, or tipping the jump ball to your teammate to start the game. Playing is fun. And all kids should have fun.

What we believe in

Equal Opportunity to Play

We want to offer affordable, gently used options to parents to help get more kids involved in sports.

Sustainability

Our goal is to keep the gear on athletes and out of the landfills.

Why we got into the game

In baseball, turning two is an impactful play.  Turning two gets two outs on a single play.  Parents need opportunities to turn two.  Turning2 Sports provides the place – an easy to navigate and use marketplace where parents can recoup equipment costs while also finding the right sports gear at reasonable prices. Our goal – turning two.

Turning2Sports helps to alleviate the financial burden felt by parents by providing a marketplace to consign children’s gently used gear (or in some cases never worn!) and at the same time, find the next perfect bat, glove, sliding shorts, cleats, and more!

We take the guesswork out of pricing.  We handle the transaction, the shipping, the hassle associated with selling online.  We curate reasonably priced equipment that is still game ready. We want to give every young player a chance to bat. We believe in equal opportunity to play.

The stats

The Aspen Institute Sports & Society Program’s Project Play research report, State of Play 2022, found that in 2021 78.0% of children ages 6-12 and 74.0% of children ages 13 – 17 participated in a team or individual sport.¹

The benefits of sports are far reaching:

  • Helps kids maintain a healthy body¹

  • Helps to prevent chronic disease¹

  • Associated with higher levels of self-esteem, motivation, and overall psychological well-being

  • Associated with improved academic achievement, including grades and standardized test scores²

  • Positive affect on academic behavior, including enhanced concentration, attention, and improved classroom behavior²

  • Teaches teamwork, collaboration, and builds confidence

Participating in sports is such a benefit for our youth, but unfortunately barriers to entry can make it a luxury some families have difficulty affording. Data from the CDC’s National Health Interview survey found in 2020 that “participation levels [in sports] were lower among children…whose parents had lower…family [incomes and] children who lived in counties with higher social vulnerability.”

A recent study found that higher-earning families (six-figure salaries) are almost twice as likely to have kids in competitive sports than parents earning less. Researchers also found that 59% of parents whose children play fall sports say the cost is a financial strain for their family. Of those whose children are on sports teams for the fall season, about 1 in 5 say their expenses are $1,000 or more.³

Research also uncovered that nearly 1 in 4 parents with a child enrolled in a competitive extracurricular activity spend $4,000 or more yearly on that activity. About half (46%) of parents say they’re often stressed about paying for those programs. Additionally, 79% of the parents surveyed have been in debt to pay for a child’s activities.

Turning2Sports wants to help parents focus on their kid’s game, not worry about how to keep their athlete outfitted and ready to play.
